Barbara Stage was born in 1990, in Mönchengladbach, Germany. She obtained her Bachelor’s Degree in Philosophy & Economics from the University of Bayreuth, and her Master’s Degree in Business Administration from the University of Mannheim. During her Master studies she specialized in Business Taxation and Tax Law. In her Bachelor’s thesis she evaluated from an econometric method-theoretical perspective an empirical study on profit shifting activities of multinational enterprises, while her Master’s thesis explored the effect of the technological innovation of cloud computing on taxation of business software providers. During her Bachelor’s she worked as Tutor, and in her Master’s she worked as student research assistant at the Center for European Economic Research. In 2013 and 2014, Barbara had the opportunity to enrich her studies with international experiences at the Hanyang University of Seoul, Korea, and the Dijon Business School, France. She acquired practical experience through internships at KPMG and in political journalism in Berlin.

Why I chose the University of Mannheim and in particular the GESS
I believe that the GESS and the University of Mannheim together furnish a very fruitful environment for exchange between fellow PhD students and scholars, and that the GESS gives me the opportunity to systematically gain tools and knowledge that will help me to accomplish my academic goals.
