Karl was born in Traunstein, Germany, in 1994. After his undergraduate studies in economics at the University of Mannheim and Zurich, he joined the CDSE in 2016. Karl also holds a master’s degree in economics from the University of Mannheim. His master’s thesis was dedicated to the taxation of income under the presence of tax evasion and avoidance. At the University of Mannheim, he worked as a research assistant at the chair of Business Administration and Finance and as a teaching assistant at the chair of Economic Theory and the chair of Public Finance. Karl spent the third year of the Ph.D. at Yale University as a visiting scholar. His research interests lie in the fields of public finance, public economics, international trade, and economic geography.
