Karl was born in Traunstein, Germany, in 1994. After his undergraduate studies in economics at the University of Mannheim and the University of Zurich, he joined the CDSE in 2016. Karl also holds a master’s degree in economics from the University of Mannheim. His master’s thesis was dedicated to the topic of income taxation under the presence of tax evasion and avoidance. He worked as a research assistant at the chair of Business Administration and Finance, esp. Banking and as a teaching assistant at the chair of Economic Theory at the University of Mannheim. Karl spent the third year of the Ph.D. at Yale University as a visiting scholar. His research interests lie in the fields of public economics and international economics with a focus on optimal taxation, international tax competition, economic integration, and the mobility of households and firms. In his leisure time, Karl enjoys swimming, going to the gym, cooking, and listening to music.
