Mario Meier was born in Neumarkt, Germany, in 1991, where he also went to high school. After high school he studied Economics at Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nürnberg and received a bachelor degree in 2013. During his studies he spent six months at University of California, San Diego for a study abroad. Mario worked as teaching assistant for the undergraduate Mathematics course and as research assistant at the chair of Economic Policy as well as Public Finance at University Erlangen-Nürnberg. In 2012 he completed an internship at the Institute for Employment Research (IAB) in Nürnberg. While studying, Mario was supported by the Max Weber-Program of the German National Academic Foundation. The second year of the PhD he spent at University of California, Berkeley where he was supported by a DAAD scholarship. His research interests lie in the fields of Public Economics, Labor Economics and Applied Econometrics. The master thesis was devoted to the topic of income taxation under misperceptions of the tax schedule. In his spare time Mario enjoys doing sports, reading, listening to classical music, watching movies and traveling.
