9th GESS Research Day on March 5, 2018

The student representatives of the CDSE, CDSS and CDSB are extraordinarily pleased to announce the 9th GESS Research Day, which will take place on March the 5th, 2018.

The Research Day will take place as a whole day symposium and will also include discussion panels besides the familiar presentation sessions. This extension comes as a part of the new bridge course offered by the GESS.

The day is designed to provide an “institutionalized” platform to exchange thoughts and ideas on interdisciplinary topics in a casual and informal environment. The goals is to kick off stronger collaborations between the three Centers, but also to see just what fellow PhD students at the other Centers are currently working on. The newly introduced discussion panels aim to find common research ideas and produce new collaborations. Depending on the participants and their interests, up to four different panels will be formed.

This research day offers a great opportunity to present ongoing research to an interested and interdisciplinary audience. Please note that it is not necessary tohave a polished paper ready for presentation. Within the new format, each paper presentation can be supplemented by a discussant upon request.

Given the positive experience of the previous GESS Research Day, we again want to provide you the opportunity to either present advanced research drafts within the Paper Sessions or early research ideas, side projects or preliminary paper drafts in the Pecha Kucha Sessions.

You are free to choose your presentation format according to your preferences and status of the project. We will provide room for both the traditional presentation format of about 20 minutes plus discussion of 5 minutes as well as the Pecha Kucha format.

You can participate at the GESS Research day in the following ways:

Present your own work (Paper Session or Pecha Kucha Session)
Discuss someone’s work
Present your own work and discuss someone’s work
Irrespective of the way you decide to participate, we strongly encourage you to take part in the discussion panel that interests you the most. Information on chairs and topics of the panels will follow after the registration deadline.

If you are interested in participating please see the attached information on how to sign up. Note that the registration deadline is this Sunday, February 11th 2018.

Best regards, Konstantin and Sophie (CDSS), Yasemin (CDSE), Annika and Marius (CDSB)
